A Pokémon store built on something simple — actually caring whether you get what you came for.
There's a moment that most Pokémon fans know well. You've been waiting. Watching the drop countdown. Refresh. Refresh. Refresh.
And then: sold out.
Not because you were too slow. Because a bot was faster.
That moment — repeated, again and again, across Pokémon Centre Australia drops — is a big part of why Prism & Pocket exists.
It started long before the store did
I'm Beck, and Pokémon has been part of my whole life from a very young age.
From the age of seven, I'd walk to the local grocery store in Cyprus to pick up a single Pokémon pack — back when that was all you could get your hands on. After school and swimming lessons, I'd settle in to watch the Indigo League on TV while tearing open chip packets, hoping to find a new Pokémon Tazo to add to my collection.
The first Pokémon game I ever played was Pokémon Red on Game Boy Color. I'm still playing the official games to this day. My all-time favourite Pokémon game remains Pokémon Emerald.
Pokémon isn't just our business. It's something we genuinely love. That shapes everything about how we run Prism & Pocket.
The Japan trip that changed things
Earlier this year, I travelled to Japan — and if you're a Pokémon fan, you already know what that means.
Walking into a Pokémon Centre in Japan isn't just shopping. It's an experience. The staff know the products. The stock is real, plentiful, and priced fairly. There's no bot barrier between you and a booster box. You walk up, pick it up, pay for it, and walk out smiling.
I came home with a suitcase heavier than I planned, a lot of receipts, and one very clear thought:

The problem with buying Pokémon in Australia
Let's be honest about it.
Pokémon Centre Australia is a great idea — official product, direct from The Pokémon Company. But the reality for most fans is: you sign up for TCG notifications, you set your alarm, you're ready at the exact right moment — and you still miss out. Bots sweep limited stock in seconds. By the time a real person gets there, it's gone.
What's left? Scalper prices on marketplace apps. Inflated "collector" listings from people who never intended to open the product. A hobby that's supposed to be fun, turned into a stress event.
That's not the experience Pokémon deserves. And it's not the experience we wanted to be part of.
What we're actually trying to do
Prism & Pocket started because we couldn't find what we were looking for: a Pokémon store that was honest, actually knowledgeable, and cared whether you got the card or the piece of merch you wanted — not just whether the sale went through.
We source genuinely — Japanese sealed product, officially licensed merchandise, English TCG — and we price it fairly. Not flipper margins. Not hype tax. Prices that reflect what something is actually worth to someone who loves Pokémon, not to someone looking to turn a profit on it.
We're based in Brisbane, and this is a family operation — not a warehouse side-hustle. When you message us, you're talking to the people who packed your order, who chose the products on the site, and who have been collectors themselves since before it was cool again.
